Our three part sand writing tray is an extension on our two part sand writing tray. It is a versatile and open ended resource which can be used to support children with their writing, reading, spelling and maths.
Children can use the three sections to help work on writing simple CVC words. They can also practice their phonics and segment words that are made up of three sounds. Children can write digraphs (sounds with two letters) in one box, so for example for the word ship, sh-i-p (see photos). Our phonics flashcards are great for this!
Using sand is a tactile and sensory way to help children become confident with forming letters and numbers. They can use their finger or the writing stick to make marks in the sand which can be easily wiped away. This encourages them to practice and not worry about making mistakes.
The three part sand writing trays can be used without sand as sorting trays. In maths children can look at number sentences, making different amounts and subitising (recognising the number of objects without counting). They could also sort objects into groups of 3. Our number flashcards can be added to the slot to recognise quantities or for number sentences.
Our three part sand writing tray comes with a small 250g bag of play sand and a wooden tracing stick. You can purchase additional sand for your trays in a variety of colours here!
Dimensions:
Our three part sand writing tray is 40cm long and 14cm wide. It is made from beech wood and is sanded smooth to touch.
